Haven't been to this board in a dog's age and don't know if the original poster still needs the answer. But here it is just in case this is a
problem for others.
My grey hair also turns green after relaxing. It can also turn a funny color yellowy/orange. After neutralizing shampoo, wash hair with a shampoo for grey hair, like Clairol Shimmer Lights. This is a violet depositing shampoo which helps to tone the hair. Apply a good amount and work into the hair, leaving it on for a few minutes. Rinse. Then apply Bantu's Yellow-Out Conditioner. Apply this fairly heavily, too and work into the hair, leaving it on at least 5 minutes. Rinse. If the hair still hasn't returned to it's silver color then shampoo again with the Shimmer Lights working it in. Then right on top of the shampoo, apply the Bantu Yellow-Out conditioner and work it in with the shampoo and let it sit for at least another 5 minutes. Rinse and apply your regular conditioner that you use after relaxing. Definitely use a conditioner after this. To really get the grey hair to perk up after relaxing, use Roux's temporary wash in color in White Minx. This is from their temporary color line, but unlike the other shades, this is more of a toner. It does not really color the grey hair, but instead helps to tone the brassy-ness caused by the relaxer. Roux has several shades for grey hair but the White Minx is the best in this situation. The others can deposit to much violet tones and you have to be careful. It really depends on the color of your grey hair and only you can decide which one to experiment with. But the White Minx is best for after relaxing. Hope this info helps. Even if you don't have grey hair, pass the info around. I usually take my products to the salon because most hairdressers are ignorant of what to do. You'd be surprised how happy they are to learn this info. |
