I feel so odd, b/c I just use the cheap oil that you can get from walmart or kmart. lol I use Africa's Best Ultimate Herbal Oil. I love it. I believe I've heard some complaints about it, but I really like it. At one point I had stopped using oil on my hair b/c I was using too much and it was just weighing my hair down. But I use it sparingly now and just a little goes a long way. My hair is so soft and not frizzy. It works well with my mango butter. When I do bantu knots over night, my hair is silky soft the next morning after using it with the mango butter. It's got every kind of oil u can think of in it and NO damaging ingredients. I also like the way it smells and its multifunctional!

I think I tried one of those before. My issue was it was that while it smelled great, the scent did not subside. I prefer light scents that smell good when you use them, but after a few mins you can't smell 'em anymore.
Also there was another one that smelled of some kind of glycerin or baby oil and that scent too would not subside. However, I just might have to try it again! I'm too lazy to find a health food store so who knows when next I will get a natural oil? Please keep those recc's coming, ladies!! |

I like a mixture of oils -with main indgredients such as oilve oil, coconut oil, almond oil, castor oil, and jojoba oil. If I find these in a mixture I am essentially sold on the product as long as it doen't contain mineral oil. And also the thicker the oil the better.

I was looking for somewhere to post this info and this thread looks as good as any. Here's some info on essential/base oils that are suppose to promote hair growth. The majority of these oils can be purchased at a local wholefoods/nutritional store:
Black Seed Oil This is one of the most dynamic oils for hair care. It improves circulation and is antiseptic, astringent, cleansing, and skin regenerative. Helps prevent hair loss and thinning; it strengthens the hair. It also conditions hair and scalp. Pure cold-pressed Nigella Sativa oil. Superb emollient and hair nourisher. Contains over 100 biological compounds, including 15 amino acids, vitamins, and minerals. It is also high in fatty acids. Fatty acids are recommended for hair loss, stunted growth, and thinning of hair. Sunflower Oil Excellent hair moisturizer and conditioner. Helps to add sheen and elasticity. It is likewise rich in minerals and nutrients. Jojoba Oil Moisturizes extra dry, thirsty hair....naturally. Infuses moisture directly into the scalp and hair shaft, quenching the thirst of extremely dry hair. With consistent use, your hair will begin to show improved elasticity, moisture balance, and longer, lasting shine. Carrot Seed Oil Strengthens weak, damaged hair....naturally. A vitamin enriched oil that penetrates deep into the hair shaft to impart herbal nutrients and viamins to repair, strengthen, and moisturize damaged hair. Brimming with Beta Carotene, Vitamins A, E, and amino acids. Carrot seed oil promotes the developement of new hair and skin cells. Bergamot Essential Oil Contains volatile oil that works as both a highly effective hair conditioner and gives body to the hair. Used for centuries to promote hair growth and retard fall out. Chamomile Essential Oil Has properties that makes the hair smooth, silky, and adds body. Nettle It has been used as a hair growth stimulant for centuries and is one of the most common herbs used in natural hair loss remedies around the world. It is rich in vitamins A and C, and a wide range of minerals including Iodine, Silicone, and Sulfur, all especially good for the hair. It is a profound source of mucilage and amino acids that the hair follicle requires for proper growth. It's stimulating qualities help increase the circulation of the scalp. Pro-Vitamin A It normalizes sebum production and stimulates the scalp, making it excellent for hair growth. It helps to stop hair loss and regrow hair. Rosemary Essential Oil (Rosmarinus Officinalis) A strong circulatory stimulant for the hair follicles and a stimulant for hair growth. Brings good flow to the scalp and causes histamine release which stimulates cell division, encouraging new hair growth. It is purifying, antimicrobial, antiseptic, astringent that stimulates hair root to grow hair. It also adds sheen and helps to prevent hair from falling out. Sage (Salvia Officinalis) Is a purifying antimicrobial, antiseptic, and astringent botanical that is a tremendous conditioner of the hair. It not only has an active agent to eliminate hair loss, but it strengthens and thickens the current hair shaft as well. Vitamin E Enhances cellular regeneration and has remarkable results for both the hair and scalp. I know that you ladies already know this stuff, but there's a couple of things I didn't know. HTH. Peace. |

I got my oil from the beauty store. It is called Dred Juice but its nothing but oils in it. It has Rosemary, jojoba, and peppermint oils in it. It also has Aloe vera in it. I don't like the smell, but it makes my hair look the bomb! But you got to use it sparingly or your hair will be a mess! Aveda has a body oil that I want to try next. It has some good oils in it.

I've been going 'oil crazy' for the past week or so. I believe I don't use as much as I should, so I'm trying to make up for lost time. I also like the Africa's Best Ultimate Herbal Oil which I've been using alot lately. Sometimes I'll mix it with a lil bit of sunflower, EFA, EVOO, WGO. I'm even mixing oils in my condition washes. Like today, I used a mixture of WGO and EVOO. I've never used this combo before, so I'm hoping it turns out right. Peace.

I condition-washed my hair on the 2nd, after putting in my leave-ins I air dried. Then I hot curled it yesterday to get it straight. I forgot to put on my scarf last night, but my hair was fuller and bouncy. I applied a mixture of WGO, EVOO, and some essential oils. This combo seems to condition my hair when its dry, so I'll be sticking with it.

I use a mixture of EVOO and vitamin E oil on my hair in the morning after taking out my rollers. Makes it soft and gives it a nice natural sheen. I buy my olive oil and vitamin E oil from Walmart. The olive oil is on the isle with the cooking oils and the vitamin E oil is in the pharmacy isle with all the vitamins and stuff. Hope that helps. |
