I'm getting my retouch next week and I want to get my hair in tip top shape for it. I'm thinking about doing an apple cider vinegar (ACV) rinse, and then deep condition. Am I missing something else to get my hair in optimum shape for my retouch?

Protein Reconstructor? | ||

Some ladies do this, either a week before or two weeks before realxing.
I thought the ACV rince was to be done immediately after relaxing 'cause that's the time to close the hair cuticles which have been opened up by the relaxer. I might be wrong so don't hesitate to tell me otherwise! |

Hey Sunshine!
Whatever you do, make sure you do it at least 3 days prior to your service. In other words, do not disturb your hair or scalp within 72 hours prior to getting your touch-up. As for the ACV, it won't hurt anything. Some of us do them regularly. For example, I do one after EVERY shampoo/condition and that's twice a week. The ACV rinse that relaxed mentioned for use after a relaxer to bring the hair's pH down is a stronger solution than the one used for general conditioning purposes. Stronger solution meaning a greater ratio of ACV/water. How do you define a deep condition treatment? I believe a protein and moisturizing treatment is essential prior to relaxing. And depending on the condition of your hair, you may need to do it several times beforehand. Good Luck! |

Hey Melissa,
What's been up girlie? Great explanation as usual and it came in handy for me today. I was going thru the threads trying to find some pre-relax advise/tips, but I couldn't find any. And then I happen upon this thread and your post. I'm writing this down. Thanx a bunch. Peace. |

Melissa - Thank you for your response!
Quote: I deep condition with Dudley's Cream Protein Moisturizing Conditioner on a weekly basis. My stylist uses Affirm relaxer on my hair so I think after she rinses out the relaxer completely she applies (as instructed) their 5-in-1 reconstructor. My stylist has told me my hair is healthy and I don't need any other products than I'm using. I'm thinking about getting Dudleys Moisturizing Conditioner because even though the cream protein conditioner I'm using says moisturizing conditoner, I'm thinking I need to use a separate moisturizing conditioner. What protein and moisturizing conditioners do you use? |

If you're looking for something different in terms of your conditioner, have you tried "Fantasia IC Deep Penetrating Cream Moisturizer"?
As for a protein reconstructor, I use Nexxus Emergencee and after that, a light conditioner, since I don't want to put too much protein in my hair. Hope this helps a bit. |

Hey Sunshine!
You're welcome! Congratulations on having healthy hair! It's taken me years to get to the healthy hair stage and I am happy to be here. For protein, I have used Nexxus Emergencee, Aphogee, and ION Reconstructor as my staples in the past. However, I am slowly but surely migrating to the Avlon line and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the 5 'n 1 conditioner as a protein, but find it is moisturizing as well. I also use liquid proteins (which is a mixture of Kenra/Elasta QP Protein Supplement, Ultra Sheen Duo Tex, and Redken CAT protein). As for mositurizing, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Keracare's Humecto. I use it as my base and add Nexxus Humectress, Hollywood Beauty's Carrot Oil Cholesterol and Hollywood Beauty's Olive Oil Cholesterol. I wash my hair twice a week. So my plan is to continue with the 5 'n 1 once a week and the liquid proteins and Humecto moisturizing combo the second time during the week. My hair is FINALLY starting to thrive and I think using the Avlon products is a major contributory factor. I will use up my Emergencee, Aphogee, and ION conditioners and don't plan to replace them. I am happy that you have found the products that work for you. Keep up the good work! Hey, Hey TooMany! Girl, how have you been? I see that your computer is hooked up and working and that you are in full swing with posts! It's always nice to see your name on a post......you are consistently helpful, candid and upbeat! I'm glad my last post helped you. Please let us know if you need any other advice on pre-relaxing tips. The last couple of times, I have used Elasta QP's Before & After (a liquid protein) anywhere from 3 to 6 days prior to my touch-up. My goal was to use it up and not replace it, but I like my results and might stick with it. Also, remember that Wella Regenal that you use after relaxing (it is a normalizing lotion)? I still use it and really feel confident that I have brought my hair's pH down after using it (along with Zotos Porosity and the ACV rinse). You're planning on going to the salon for your next touch-up right? If so, please let us know which relaxer is used (you had mentioned wanting to try Fiberguard previously) and how it turns out. Take Care Girlie! |
